Childhood Obesity Argumentative Essay Topics
Childhood Obesity Argumentative Essay TopicsIn the U.S., childhood obesity is a growing concern, in part due to the recent rise in the average number of calories consumed daily. In a more general sense, however, childhood obesity has become something of a concern among all sorts of academics and researchers. While much research has been done on this topic, one of the most contentious argumentative essay topics is whether or not the increase in obesity in children will eventually lead to their deaths, as has been predicted by some in the medical community. In this article, we will examine the topic further and examine some of the arguments made in the research that underlies it.To begin with, there are many differing opinions as to whether obesity in children will increase in the future. However, a more popular opinion is that, with proper medical attention, obesity will be gradually reduced in the U.S. over the next few decades. Some researchers claim that this will indeed happen, wh ile others claim that it will not. In order to reach a final conclusion, several people with different opinions must be examined and data collected from them.First, there is the argument that our culture has overemphasized eating and nutrition plays a major role in causing this increase in obesity. This may have played a role in causing over-eating and malnutrition, which in turn lead to obesity. Others claim that a major cause is a lack of exercise in this country. The second argument is one that tackles the question from a health perspective, instead of one of emotional concern. Parents and doctors have often blamed obesity on how much food is being eaten, not what exactly one is eating. If children are eating more junk food, or they are spending more time playing video games, then that may contribute to them gaining the extra weight. In order to make an argument about this subject, a researcher will need to first gather and analyze data. For this reason, most academic essays on thi s topic have large lists of references. The researcher will need to collect these data and then compare them to other data that is collected. Data may come from government agencies, private organizations, or personal knowledge. The second argument comes from the argument that, while unhealthy food has always been available, the amount of healthy food available in the market has decreased. In fact, the amount of fresh produce sold in the grocery store has decreased for years, especially those high in fat. Because of this, it is believed that children now eat an unhealthy diet, and, therefore, gaining more weight.Third, there is the argument that children are now growing up in a world that is very sedentary. Since so many adults tend to work and do not spend much time outside, children are getting less exercise than they used to. Because of this, children are becoming more sedentary, and so they will gain weight and become obese. These arguments are quite numerous, but there are also tw o points that the argument can be strengthened by. One of the arguments is that a nation cannot solve obesity if it does not understand its roots. Another argument has to do with the idea that the argument from a health standpoint is valid, while an argument from an emotional perspective is not. The result is a multitude of arguments that have to be examined in detail to make a final conclusion.
